BIG DECK ...... COMPENSATION ???

Big Deck Energy: Are Wide Boards Just Overcompensation?
Let’s talk about something serious. No, not your nonexistent kickflip — we’re talking deck width. You know the type: Creature 8.75”, Santa Cruz pool shapes, or those Anti Hero slabs that look like someone nailed a 2x4 to trucks. The real question is — are wide skate decks just compensation?
Some say yes. Some say if your board is over 8.5”, you’re basically driving a lifted truck on four wheels. You roll up with a Creature 9.0” and everyone knows: either this guy skates vert… or he’s got something to prove. And usually, it’s not the vert.
Santa Cruz? Their decks practically double as patio furniture. Great for transition, but also suspiciously great for hiding insecurities. Coincidence? We think not.
Then there’s Anti Hero — the brand that screams “I don’t care what you think,” while definitely caring. You show up with one of their big rigs and suddenly you’re saying, “I just like the stability,” while nervously adjusting your waistband.
To be fair, big decks do have their perks — more control, better for bowls, easier on the knees. But let’s be honest: if your board’s wider than a baguette, people are gonna talk.
In conclusion: ride what you want. But remember — size isn’t everything. Unless we’re talking wheelbase.
